X Marks The Core
In 2022 Common Ground and CORE Youth Service began the development of a visual arts programme with young people who access the youth service. Young people took part in printmaking workshops with Print Van Go and artist Kate O’Shea to test out ideas, methods and engagement in DIY printmaking.
Following the successful application to The Toy Show Appeal Fund, Common Ground and CORE Youth Project developed the project ‘X Marks The Core’ – a creative project responding to the locality and its physical and social regeneration. ‘X Marks The Core’ seeks to build a new resilience with young people that supports them to respond to the challenges of where they live creatively and artistically so that their vision is included in the future social and physical regeneration of their neighbourhood.
The young people from CORE Youth Service are now working with artist Veronica Dyas, having initially worked with artist Chinedum Muotto in early 2023. Veronica Dyas is an artist working primarily through new text, installation and performance and is based in The Lodge as artist in residence.
