A Radical Imagination
A Radical Imagination is a new community based residency awarded by Common Ground, building on The Just City Counter Narrative Neighbourhood award that ran from 2020 – 2022.
In 2022 A Radical Imagination offered collaborative or socially engaged artists/arts collective/community partners an opportunity to be based in Dublin 8. The timing of the award also marks when Dublin 8, the area in which Common Ground works and is located continues to experience multiple changes to its urban and social fabric as we navigate our way through a pandemic.
In April, artist Evelyn Broderick was awarded the residency. Meath based artist Evelyn Broderick’s practice is an open dialogue in MAKING/THINKING that evolves and changes through the interactions of the communities she engages with.
Her response to A Radical Imagination is to create ‘The Peoples Shed’ which acts as a space for sharing skills and knowledge through communal workshops. The word ‘radical’ comes from the senses ‘forming the root’ and ‘inherent’ and Evelyn asks how can studio 468 become a space for ‘The Peoples Shed’ to make space for collective making, understanding generational interconnected roots? How can ‘The People’s Shed’ collaboratively root itself in Dublin 8?
