Clodagh is a Trini-Irish anti-disciplinary artist and curator based in Dublin. Clodagh is influenced by the traditions of Black feminist thought and their work is rooted in diasporic memory, the politics of care, and practices of refusal. Through their writing and experimentation with material forms, they critique architecture, language, memory, and modes of marginalisation — making space for what is often obscured, withheld, or unspeakable.

Common Ground is delighted to announce the second residency of Collective Futures 2025. Artist and Curator, Clodagh Assata Boyce will take up residency in studio 468 from July 2025 until January 2026.

During their residency Clodagh will be inviting people from wider Dublin 8 to collectively investigate and explore the white spatial imaginary and to reimagine our neighbourhoods and the City. These ‘Pedagogies of Encounter’ will engage international black feminist methodologies combined with collective research, writing and reading groups, film screenings, community sharing, mapping and zine making. These ‘en-counters’ create counter knowledge and strategies to dismantle the white spatial imaginary. All combined will create oppositional knowledge, aesthetics, maps and guides potently acting as an emergence of something new that cannot be scripted, until those encounters occur on site, in studio 468.

Elizabeth Woods and Kevin Leong are Australian artists, in residence at The Lodge in May and June who are working on a long-term project The Caretakers’ Residency which studies the practices and philosophies of collective care. The project follows the proposition that community members vocationally involved in collective and radical care have distinct understandings of and approaches to crises, and aims to study how these care practices shift their perceptions and aspirations. In later project stages, these studies will provide provocations for future community action and projects.

As part of the foundational study and research, Kevin and Elizabeth are seeking to meet Collective Caretakers, and asked Common Ground to identify the broad range of extraordinary community members who undertake the skilled, difficult, and relentless work often involved in collective care. The artists are acutely aware that collective care makes unusual demands on individuals – that additional capacity can be scarce – and so, they aim to accommodate participation at any level of commitment.

If you are a collective caretaker, have an interest in the subject matter or would like to meet the artists, they will be holding open studios, workshops and interviews during their stay or may be able to arrange to meet you at a more convenient location.

Elizabeth and Kevin can be contacted through Common Ground or on their website.

Common Ground is delighted to announce the Collective Futures Award for 2024 is awarded to the art collective, School of Thought, with artist Augustine O’Donoghue, and historian and educator Dr Conor Mc Cabe.

They will be based in studio 468 in St Andrew’s Community Centre from April to December 2024. The art collective School of Thought is a collaboration between long-time Dublin 8 resident, artist Augustine O’Donoghue, and historian and educator Dr. Conor McCabe. This interdisciplinary collective was established as a creative response to Collective Futures. School of Thought acknowledges the need and value of working collaboratively across disciplines as a way of bridging different spheres of knowledge, to think through ideas from different perspectives in order to gain new insights and ways of working. They believe that in order to build a future we need to look at the past, that history is not linear but circular, and the future, in many ways, is old. School of Thought will use a range of research-creation methodologies to collaboratively engage with residents across different communities across Dublin 8. Together and with others they will creatively explore, unpack and make visible some of the forces shaping and defining our collective futures.

Their residency will involve workshops, talks, and film screenings within studio 468 itself, which will act as a central hub for the various spokes that will radiate from it. They will also take their work and practice outdoors to the streets of Dublin 8 asking:

Who is shaping our future?

What kind of future do we want?

How do we get there?

Please register your interest in attending research/events to info@commonground.ie
