It can be hard to find the light amongst all the darkness we are enduring and witnessing across our communities local and global. As 2023 comes to a close we are sharing a moment captured as part of our collaborative project – ‘X Marks The Core’- with CORE Youth Service and artist Veronica Dyas. This project is supporting the young people of CORE Youth Service to respond to the challenges of where they live so that their vision is part of the future regeneration of their neighbourhood.

Join us to find out about Dublin 8’s biodiversity, history, and heritage on a Walk/Talk led by two members of the D8 Green Bridge Forum. This is the first Walk/Talk in 2023 in a series titled Blue & Green with lots in between, as part of the programme for Culture Date with Dublin 8. We will walk on a route around the local area and stop at various points of interest. We will learn how our built and natural environments connect to one another and share ideas on how to make our area a greener, healthier place to live for us, our community, and the flora and fauna we share it with.

The Walk/Talk will begin at 11:00 am on Saturday 13th May at The Lodge beside Goldenbridge Cemetery, and will finish in Turvey Park, Inchicore. The Walk/Talk will last approximately 2 hours. An illustrated map will be gifted to participants anchoring key points of interest and interesting facts about the heritage and biodiversity of each location. Tickets are limited and can be booked in advance on Eventbrite.

You are invited to the launch of Strategic Pathways to Community-led Greening – the final report of the Mapping Green Dublin project on June 10th at 6pm. You can book a ticket through Eventbrite.

Mapping Green Dublin’s research responds to recent research by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) that has highlighted the importance of green space and urban greening on health and wellbeing. Increased interaction with greenspace leads to more positive health outcomes but greening strategies must be fit-for-purpose. Simply put place matters! Our community strategy highlights how communities all across the country and beyond can take the tools we have created to develop projects and deliver real change in their own neighbourhoods.

Our speakers at the launch are:

Debbie Mulhall, Community Development worker and resident of Dolphin House will talk about the need for greenspace for all, particularly children growing up in the area.

Julie McCormick and Mary Moriarty, two local residents & growers who during the past year have initiated community-led planting and building of structures in Turvey Park, Dublin 8.

Austin Campbell, CEO of Robert Emmet CDP will discuss the various greening and nature-based initiatives he is undertaking in the inner-city area.

Our guest speaker Anja Murray will respond to the issues being discussed. Anja is an ecologist, environmental policy analyst, nature enthusiast, and presenter on Ecoeye (RTE) and Nature File (Lyric FM). Anja will also join our Mapping Green Dublin team to answer questions from participants and discuss future pathways to inclusive greening policies and practices.

You can explore Mapping Green Dublin’s website to learn more about the phases involved in developing the strategy including: tree mapping, community mapping and co-creation, and action and find out more about the Mapping Green Dublin partners.
